Castor Oil Cures
What can castor oil do for you?
Over the years I have maintained castor oil as a trusted friend. It’s ability to speed healing of bruises and skin irritations never ceases to amaze me, but it is also deeply soothing and therapeutic to the internal organs and systems of the body. Castor oil has been in use in the US since at least 1800’s and Edgar Cayce popularized the use of castor oil packs. Castor oil, applied externally, can help with joint pain, muscle pain and cramps and overall body discomfort. Castor oil has one of the highest concentrations of ricinoleic acid, thought to be it’s therapeutic benefit. Applied externally, castor oil has been shown to:
- Fight skin disorders and infections
- Soothe digestive disorders and constipation (use a castor oil pack on the abdomen)
- Decongests the lymphatic system – aiding in detoxification and immune support
- Prevents fungal and bacterial growth
- Speeds the healing of bruises and skin irritations
- Is anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial
- Alleviates joint pain
- Soothes menstrual cramps
- Creates more shine to hair when applied as a hair pack
- May increase white blood cell and some T cell activity
When to use it: Castor oil can be used daily on the skin as a skin conditioner or on the hair. It is a very thick oil, so for these purposes you may want to dilute it with coconut oil. For healing and inflammation, apply as needed and is best with a hot compress over the oil.
How much to use: A few Tb. is usually more than enough
People who may be more sensitive: It is always helpful to on a small area of your skin to be sure it doesn’t cause any irritation for you.
What kind to buy: Look for cold pressed and organic.
