Lemon Sesame Broccoli & Daikon

Daikon Radish – Radishes are a member of the cruciferous vegetables. They are high in Vitamin C & Potassium. Daikon has been used for liver disorders, the sulfur based compounds increase bile flow.

Lemon - Lemon is very supportive to the liver and gallbladder. It is high in Vitamin C and also contains potassium, folic acid and the phytochemical limonene. Lemon improves absorption of minerals and also helps to eliminate putrefactive bacteria and in the mouth and intestines.

Ginger – Ginger has exceptional anti-inflammatory properties. It is also wonderful for gas and nausea and relaxes and soothes the intestinal tract. It is also wonderful for motion and morning sickness.

Broccoli –Vitamins A, C, E,K, potassium, magnesium, B6, folic acid and fiber are all present in high amounts in broccoli. Broccoli has also shown exceptional anti-cancer properties. Broccoli is also helpful in detoxifying the liver.

Sesame – One of the highest food sources of calcium. They also contain magnesium, iron, zinc and B vitamins. They are rich in antioxidant lignans and a great source of protein, particularly the amino acids tryptophan and methionine. Methionine helps the body detoxify and excrete heavy metals and also converts to SAMe, which helps with reducing inflammation, liver detoxification and mood support.

Dulse – Dulse is a great source of iodine and is rich in manganese. Sea vegetables have a wide range of minerals including magnesium, iron and potassium. Dulse also contains folic acid and lignans. Lignans are compounds that reduce the inflammatory response.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds broccoli, stems removed, crowns cut into large florets
  • 1 medium size daikon radish (thinly sliced)
  • 1 tbsp. gomasio
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp. dulse flakes
  • 1 tsp. sesame oil
  • 1 tsp. minced ginger

Instructions

  1. Arrange a collapsible steamer in a large pot and add a few inches of water to the pot.

  2. Cover and bring to a boil.

  3. Arrange broccoli in steamer, cover and steam, tossing once or twice, until just tender, 4 to 5 minutes.

  4. Transfer broccoli to a large bowl, toss with gomasio, dulse, lemon juice, ginger and oil and serve.
